Merthyr Tydful Borough Council appoints Delta Security as their security contractor for the next 3 years
In May this year Delta along with several other companies tendered in an open forum for the Council Security Contract for Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. After a lengthy process it was revealed last week that Delta had been awarded the whole of Merthyr’s security as per the schedule quoted against.
The MD of Delta Security, Julian Roe said "We are delighted with this for several reasons, firstly its new business to our South Wales Division, secondly it’s the first time we have been past the PQQ stage of one of these public tenders, and lastly, it proves that local companies can make ground on the nationals in an open market place, which this tender process truly was.."
Our Director for the South Wales Region David Gowen-Porter has put in some long hours at Head Office in order to produce a competitive quote which ticked all the boxes the Merthyr Council representatives were looking for, along with the ability to provide the close support that the national companies sometimes fail to do. We have taken out some big hitters on the UK security market who I know will be kicking themselves about losing such a good business opportunity to a regionally based SME like Delta. It just goes to show, bigger is not always better!”.

SIA Licensing Changes
In 2010, the SIA will be changing the structure of the all SIA licensing courses. Goose and Julian have been working with City & Guilds over 2009 putting together the new CP course that all close protection training organisations will have to teach. The finished article is been put out to the other awarding bodies for scrutiny and now having passed that, is with the SIA for approval.
Question bank writing will start in September 2009.
Julian Roe the MD of DSG said, “it has been excellent working with Goose and City & Guilds and being at the forefront of Close Protection licensing in the UK. Many people have always felt the course was based on more military and individual thinking. What we have done is hopefully to standardise the course according to the brief the SIA gave us, so all have equal access and a chance to benefit from a more generic course structure, based not only on our own experiences, but those from other CP bodies like NASP (National Association of Security Professionals), who have provided invaluable support over this exercise.”
